ABSTRACT
Background and Objective: Suryavarta is one among the 11 Shirorogas mentionedby Acharya Susrutha in which onset of pain is very characteristic, as it starts whenthe sun rises in the morning, reaches its peak at noon and subsides when sun sets.Pain in the region of Shankha, Akshi, Bhru and Lalata are the common symptoms ofSuryavarta and most of its clinical features simulates with frontal sinusitis (or ‘officeheadache’). The frontal sinus being the most complex of all para nasal sinuses, itspathology can progress to involve nearby structures and lead to significantmorbidity, or even mortality. As Nasya is considered as the prime treatmentmodality for Shiroroga, in the present study Yashtimadhu-Madhu Avapeeda Nasya isbrought under trial in comparison with Vacha-Pippali Avapeeda Nasya. Methods: 40patients were selected as per criteria and were randomly divided into two groups- Aand B with 20 patients in each. Group A was treated with Yashtimadhu MadhuAvapeeda Nasya and Group B with Vacha Pippali Avapeeda Nasya for 7 days. Result:The assessment was done based on the improvement in subjective and objectiveparameters. The observations were made and results were statistically analysed. Both group showed statistically significant result individually and percentage wiserelief was found higher in group A for parameters Shirashula Dinavrudha Vivardhate,Akshiruk, Shanka Ruk and E.S.R and for parameters Lalata Ruk, Spandanavat Vedanaand Tenderness Group B showed higher percentage of relief. Conclusion: Bothgroups showed statistically significant results within group for all parameters exceptE.S.R. Effect of treatment on E.S.R. within the group was not statistically significantduring the time period before treatment to after treatment, but became significantafter treatment and during all follow ups. On comparative analysis between thegroups, it showed no statistically significant difference.
